Elite Tool & Plant Hire 110V electric breaker

A breaker, or a kango if that is what you call it, for taking up concrete paths, slabs, hardstanding and driveways. Sixty-six kilos of machine doing the work that a sledgehammer and a bad back do slowly.

We run them petrol and electric, and which you want depends on what is on site rather than on what you are breaking. Petrol needs nothing but fuel. Electric is site voltage, so it needs a transformer or the generator, not the socket in the kitchen. Say which you have when you ring and the right one goes out.

Getting it to the job

It is hand carried, so there is no gate width to measure. Any route a person fits down, this fits down.

It is sixty-six kilos though, and sixty-six kilos of awkward shape. That is a two person lift into a boot, a long way from a one person carry across a site, and not something to take up a ladder at all. Say if you would rather we delivered it to where it is working than to the kerb.

Getting it to the job

Carried in by hand, so access is not the question it is with the plant.

It still has to get to site: collect it from the yard in Etruria, or we will run it out with the rest of your hire.

What comes with it

  • Serviced and tested between every hire
  • Concrete and tarmac points, and a transformer for the electric one
  • Delivery to site, or collect it from the Etruria yard
  • Off hire from the day you ring, not the day it comes back

What you will need

  • Power for the electric one, or just fuel for the petrol one
  • Ear defenders, goggles, gloves and boots
  • Somewhere for the broken concrete to go

What people hire it for

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the breaker goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Lifting a concrete path

The single most common reason people hire one. Break it into pieces you can lift rather than slabs you cannot.

02/ 06

Taking up a drive

Old concrete hardstanding before a new drive goes down, usually with a dumper alongside to take it away.

03/ 06

Shed and garage bases

Old bases that are cracked, sunken or simply in the wrong place.

04/ 06

Breaking out after a saw cut

Cut the line with the Stihl saw first, then break to it. Straight edge, no making good a metre either side.

05/ 06

Doorways and openings

Knocking through block and brick where a clean controlled break matters more than speed.

06/ 06

Chasing and channelling

With the right chisel, cutting channels for pipe and cable runs through solid walls and floors.

How it works

Hiring the breaker
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire 110V electric breaker
Breaker, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Tell us what you have on site

The electric ones are site voltage: a transformer or the generator and a yellow 110V lead, not the socket in the kitchen. Petrol needs none of that. Turning up with an electric breaker and nowhere to plug it in is the most common reason a breaker hire goes wrong on day one, and one question on the phone prevents it.

02

Let the machine do it

Leaning your whole weight on it does not break concrete faster, it wears you out and is harder on the tool. Guide it, keep it moving, work from an edge inwards.

03

Find out what is underneath

Services under a path or a drive are not always where a plan says they are, and they are sometimes nowhere near deep enough. If you are not sure, find out before you start rather than after.

04

Ears, eyes and boots

It is genuinely loud and it throws sharp fragments a long way. Defenders, goggles, gloves and boots, and mind whoever is standing watching.

05

Break it into liftable pieces

It is tempting to break the minimum and lever it out. You will not lift what comes up. Smaller pieces, and get something on site to carry them.

06

Vibration is cumulative

Break up the day rather than doing six hours straight. Gloves help; a change of task helps more.

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the breaker
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Breaker hire,
answered

Not the electric one. That is site voltage, so it needs a transformer or the generator and a yellow 110V lead. If there is no power where you are working, take the petrol breaker instead. Tell us when you book what you are running it from and we will make sure you leave with the right thing.

The same machine. Kango is a manufacturer name that became the everyday word for a breaker, like Hoover for a vacuum. Ask for either and you get this.

These suit paths, slabs and ordinary hardstanding, petrol or electric. The hydraulic breaker hits harder and brings its own power pack, so it suits thicker concrete. We have those in more than one size, so ring and tell us what you are breaking.

Ordinary domestic concrete, paths and drives are well within it. We carry more than one size, so if you are into reinforced slabs or anything unusually deep, tell us what you are breaking and we will point you at the right machine rather than sell you a long day.

Ring the yard and you get a straight answer on whether the breaker is available, when it is back if it is out on hire, and whether it is the right thing for what you are doing. If it is not, we will say so.
