Elite Tool & Plant Hire car transporter trailer

A five metre bed with ramps that stow on board once you have loaded, so you are not working out where to put them for the journey. Built for moving a vehicle rather than a tracked machine, which is a different job with different loading and different strapping.

As with the plant trailer, your licence comes first. What you can tow depends on when you passed your test, and the combined weight of car plus trailer plus load adds up faster than people expect.

Getting it to the job

It is over two metres wide and five metres of bed, which makes it the longest thing in the yard to manoeuvre. Where you will turn it round and where you will park it matter more than where you can get it to.

Loading wants flat, straight, firm ground with a clear run at the ramps. A sloping or cambered loading spot is how a car ends up off the side of a trailer.

What people hire it for

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the car transporter goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Moving a non-runner

A project, a restoration or something that has failed its MOT and is not going anywhere on its own wheels.

02/ 06

Collecting a purchase

A car bought at distance or at auction that you would rather not drive home on an unknown history.

03/ 06

Track and competition days

Getting a car there and back without putting road miles on it.

04/ 06

Classic and low cars

Vehicles you would rather not drive far, or that do not appreciate speed bumps and motorway miles.

05/ 06

Moving between premises

Trade and workshop moves where the vehicle is not taxed, insured or road legal for the trip.

06/ 06

Recovery after a breakdown

Getting a vehicle home yourself rather than waiting on a recovery slot.

How it works

Hiring the car transporter
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

Before you book

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire car transporter trailer
Car Transporter, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Check your licence first

Same as the plant trailer. Entitlement depends on when you passed, and the combined weight is what counts. Check it before you book.

02

Strap the wheels, not the body

Wheel straps let the suspension work. Strapping to the body or the axles loads things that were not designed for it and can damage the car.

03

Get the weight distribution right

The car sits so the weight is slightly forward of the trailer axles. Too far back and it snakes, which at speed is genuinely frightening.

04

Watch the approach angle

Low cars ground out on the ramp transition. Boards under the ramps and a slow, straight approach save a front bumper.

05

Chock it as well

Handbrake off or on as the situation requires, but chocked and strapped either way. Do not rely on the handbrake alone.

06

It is long, and you will reverse it

Four metres of bed behind a car reverses nothing like a small trailer. Find somewhere quiet to get used to it before you need to do it in a tight drive.

Hired a large car transporter trailer from the guys at Elite and I cannot fault the service. The driver rang on the morning of delivery with updates and kept me informed…

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Where the car transporter
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Asked most often

Car Transporter hire,
answered

It depends on when you passed your test and on the combined weight of your vehicle, the trailer and the car on it. Check your own entitlement before you book rather than assuming it is covered.

Check the towing capacity in your handbook and add the trailer to the car you are loading. Plenty of vehicles that will pull an empty trailer are nowhere near rated for a loaded one.

No. Take the plant trailer for a machine. This is built for a vehicle on wheels, and the bed and ramps are set up for that.

They stow on board, which is one of the things that makes this one easy to live with. No working out where to put them once the car is on.
