Elite Tool & Plant Hire petrol chainsaw

A petrol chainsaw with a sixteen inch bar, for felling, logging, cutting up storm damage and clearing overgrowth. It comes sharpened and fuelled and it will cut anything you sensibly put in front of it.

It is also the most dangerous thing we hire, by a distance, and we would rather say so than not. If you have not used one, or you are looking at a tree near a building, a road or a power line, ring and tell us about it before you book anything.

Getting it to the job

Hand carried at five and a half kilos, so access is never the issue. It travels in a boot with the guard on and the fuel separate.

What does need planning is the drop zone and what happens to everything you cut. A tree comes down once; the brash and the logs take the rest of the day.

Getting it to the job

Carried in by hand, so access is not the question it is with the plant.

It still has to get to site: collect it from the yard in Etruria, or we will run it out with the rest of your hire.

What people hire it for

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the chainsaw goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Felling small trees

Garden trees that have outgrown the space, within what the bar and your experience sensibly cover.

02/ 06

Storm damage

Clearing what has come down across a drive, a fence or a field after a bad night.

03/ 06

Cutting up brash and limbs

Reducing what is on the ground into lengths the chipper will take or you can move.

04/ 06

Logging for firewood

Cutting fallen or felled timber to stove length.

05/ 06

Overgrown boundaries

Heavy growth along a hedge line or a boundary that has been left too long for loppers.

06/ 06

Before the stump grinder

Taking the stump down close to ground level so the grinder starts from a sensible height.

How it works

Hiring the chainsaw
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire petrol chainsaw
Chainsaw, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

The protective kit is not optional

Chainsaw trousers, boots, gloves, helmet and visor. Ordinary work trousers offer nothing at all against a moving chain, and a leg injury from a chainsaw is life changing rather than inconvenient.

02

Never on your own

Somebody else on site who knows you are using it and can get help. This is the one job in the yard where working alone is genuinely reckless.

03

Kickback is what hurts people

The top of the bar tip catching is what throws a saw back at the operator. Keep the tip out of the cut, use the chain brake, and never cut above shoulder height.

04

Plan the drop and your way out

Where it falls, what it hits on the way, and where you go as it goes. Then check nothing is above you that the fall will bring down with it.

05

Know when it is not your job

Near a building, a road, a boundary or overhead cables, or anything big enough to do serious damage, wants a tree surgeon. We will say so on the phone rather than take the hire.

06

Fuel and chain oil

It goes out fuelled and oiled. Watch the chain oil as well as the petrol on a long day, because a dry chain ruins the bar.

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the chainsaw
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Asked most often

Chainsaw hire,
answered

We do not ask for one. We will ask what you are cutting though, and if it sounds like a job for a tree surgeon we will say so. Certification is a legal requirement for work-related use, so if this is for a job rather than your own garden, check where you stand.

Ring and ask when you book. What we will not do is hand over a chainsaw to somebody in jeans, so get that sorted before the day either way.

Comfortably up to a trunk well within the bar length, cutting from both sides. If you are eyeing up something considerably bigger, that is the point at which to ring rather than to push on.

That is a tree surgeon job, not a hire job. Anything that could reach a building, a road, a boundary or a cable needs somebody who does it for a living, and we would rather tell you that than take the money.

Get it booked

Tell us the job.
We will tell you the machine.

Ring the yard and you get a straight answer on whether the chainsaw is available, when it is back if it is out on hire, and whether it is the right thing for what you are doing. If it is not, we will say so.
