Elite Tool & Plant Hire twin axle plant trailer

A twin axle plant trailer for moving your own machine rather than waiting on a delivery slot. Ramps on board, and we have more than one, so what it carries depends on which trailer you get. Between them they cover the micro digger, the tracked dumper and most of what people want to shift between their own jobs.

The thing to sort out before anything else is your licence. A standard car licence does not stretch as far as most people assume, and what you are allowed to tow depends on when you passed your test. Check it properly rather than hoping.

Getting it to the job

Think about where it can go and, more to the point, where it can turn round and be reversed. A trailer you cannot reverse into the drive is a trailer parked on the road.

Loading wants firm level ground with room to line up straight at the ramps. Loading on a slope or across a camber is where machines come off the side.

Getting it to the job

Carried in by hand, so access is not the question it is with the plant.

It still has to get to site: collect it from the yard in Etruria, or we will run it out with the rest of your hire.

The rest of the sheet

Ring the yard if a figure matters to your job and we will check it against the machine before you travel.

What comes with it

  • Straps and chains, lights and ramps with the trailer
  • Checked over between every hire
  • Delivery to site, or collect it from the Etruria yard
  • Off hire from the day you ring, not the day it comes back

What you will need

  • A licence that covers the combined weight. Check yours
  • A towing vehicle rated for the load, not just fitted with a ball
  • Straps or chains, and the knowledge to use them

What people hire it for

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the plant trailer goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Collecting a machine yourself

Picking up from the yard when it suits you instead of fitting round a delivery run.

02/ 06

Moving between your own sites

A machine on two jobs in a week, without paying to move it each time.

03/ 06

Moving your own plant

If the machine is yours and the trailer is the missing piece.

04/ 06

Getting kit to somewhere remote

A field, a paddock or a track where a delivery wagon is not the right vehicle.

05/ 06

Taking materials and machines together

One run instead of two, where the load is within what the trailer and your licence allow.

06/ 06

Moving a mower or a compact tractor

Anything that fits the bed and comes inside the weight.

How it works

Hiring the plant trailer
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Plant Trailer, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Check your licence first, properly

What you can tow depends on when you passed your test, and it is not the same for everybody. Look it up before you book rather than finding out at a roadside check.

02

Gross is not payload

Three and a half tonnes gross includes the trailer itself. What you can actually put on it is that figure minus the trailer, and the machine is heavier than the spec sheet with a full tank and a bucket on.

03

Strap it down properly

Front and back, through the right points, tight. A machine that shifts on a trailer at speed is not something you recover from.

04

Load square, load level

Straight at the ramps on firm level ground, and loaded so the weight sits slightly forward of the axles rather than behind them.

05

Noseweight matters

Too little and it snakes, too much and it overloads the towbar. Getting the machine in the right place on the bed is what sets it.

06

Drive differently

Longer braking, wider lines, lower speed limits and a lot more attention on the way out of junctions. If you have not towed much, take the first few miles very gently.

From the Google profile

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the plant trailer
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Asked most often

Plant Trailer hire,
answered

It depends on when you passed your test, and the rules changed a few years ago. Check your own entitlement against the combined weight before you book. We will tell you the trailer weights; what you are allowed to tow is between you and your licence.

It takes the micro digger, the tracked dumper and most compact plant. Tell us which machine you are moving when you ring and we will tell you whether it goes, because the answer depends on the machine rather than on the trailer.

The trailer comes with ramps and straps. Knowing how to use them is the part that matters, so if you are unsure ask at the yard before you drive off.

Often, yes, and we will say so. If your licence is a question mark, your vehicle is borderline or you have not towed before, delivery is the easier answer.

Ring the yard and you get a straight answer on whether the plant trailer is available, when it is back if it is out on hire, and whether it is the right thing for what you are doing. If it is not, we will say so.
