Elite Tool & Plant Hire aluminium scaffold tower

An aluminium tower on locking castors, for gutters, fascias, soffits, ceilings, first-floor windows and anything else that takes longer than a couple of minutes. You get a platform with guard rails to stand and work on rather than a ladder to balance on, and it rolls to the next bay when that bit is done.

The reason to hire one is rarely height on its own. It is time. Ten minutes up a ladder is a ladder job. Half a day of cutting in, boarding or fascia work with tools in both hands is a tower job, and the difference shows up in how tired you are by three o clock as much as in how safe it is.

Getting it to the job

It comes apart into frames, braces and boards, so it goes through a standard doorway and up a staircase in pieces. Built up it is wider than that, so if you need to move it assembled through a gate or an entry, measure the gap and tell us when you book.

A van or an estate with the seats down will take it. If you are working inside, take it in as components and build it in the room rather than trying to walk a built tower through the house.

Getting it to the job

Carried in by hand, so access is not the question it is with the plant.

It still has to get to site: collect it from the yard in Etruria, or we will run it out with the rest of your hire.

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the scaffold tower goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Gutters, fascias and soffits

A full run of guttering off a ladder means coming down and moving it every metre. Off a tower you work a bay at a time with both hands free.

02/ 06

Ceilings and plasterboarding

Boarding, taping and skimming overhead all take two hands and a lot of looking up. A platform makes it a job rather than an ordeal.

03/ 06

Painting and rendering

Cutting in at first-floor level, painting render or treating timber, where you want to keep a wet edge along a whole wall rather than in ladder-width sections.

04/ 06

First-floor windows

Repairs, sealing and replacement where you need tools, a sealant gun and somewhere to put them down.

05/ 06

Loft and roof edge access

Getting into a loft hatch from outside, or working at the roof edge where a ladder would be leaning on the very thing you are trying to fix.

06/ 06

Warehouse and unit work

Lighting, ducting and racking inside a unit, where the castors mean you move along the run without dismantling anything.

How it works

Hiring the scaffold tower
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire aluminium scaffold tower
Scaffold Tower, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Ground first, tower second

It wants firm and level. Soft ground, a slope or a soft spot under one castor is how towers go over. Sort the standing before you start building, not once you are halfway up.

02

Lock the castors every time you stop

All of them, every time, before anybody climbs. The whole point of castors is that it moves easily, which is exactly the problem if you forget.

03

Climb up the inside

Never up the outside of the frame. Pulling on the outside is what tips a tower, and the frames are built to be climbed from within.

04

Nobody rides it

Get off, move it, get back on. Moving a tower with someone or something on the platform is how people end up in an ambulance.

05

Guard rails and toe boards go on

They come with it and they are not optional decoration. Toe boards are what stop a dropped tool becoming somebody else is problem.

06

Know what you are building

Towers are built to a sequence and there is a right way to do it. If you have never put one up, say so when you ring and we will talk you through what you are getting.

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the scaffold tower
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Asked most often

Scaffold Tower hire,
answered

It builds to the height you need rather than to one fixed figure, and the platform comes 0.7m or 1.35m wide. Tell us what you are reaching when you ring and we will tell you honestly whether it gets there.

There is a right sequence to building one and it is worth knowing it. We will build it for you if you would rather, or talk it through if you are putting it up yourself. Either way, say when you book rather than working it out on site.

Not unless you want to. We will build it, or you can, and it is a two person job either way: the frames are light enough on their own, but lifting and locating them at height alone is where people come unstuck.

In pieces, usually, with the seats down. A van or estate is easier. If you would rather not, we will deliver it.
