Elite Tool & Plant Hire SDS-Max rotary hammer drill

A rotary hammer drill for brick, block and concrete. Where a combi drill from the shed stalls, overheats or simply polishes the hole, this keeps going, and it does it without destroying your wrists in the first half hour.

We carry more than one, and the bits go out with the drill. Tell us the hole you are making when you book: the size of it decides which drill leaves the yard, and that is a two minute conversation rather than a wasted trip.

Getting it to the job

Hand carried at under seven kilos, so nothing about access matters here. It goes in a car boot and up a ladder.

It comes in its case with the bits, and it is worth bringing it back that way. Loose SDS bits in a boot find their way into carpet and never come out.

Getting it to the job

Carried in by hand, so access is not the question it is with the plant.

It still has to get to site: collect it from the yard in Etruria, or we will run it out with the rest of your hire.

The rest of the sheet

Ring the yard if a figure matters to your job and we will check it against the machine before you travel.

What comes with it

  • Serviced and tested between every hire
  • The bits go out with the drill
  • Delivery to site, or collect it from the Etruria yard
  • Off hire from the day you ring, not the day it comes back

What you will need

  • Power where you are working, or the generator
  • To know what is inside the wall before you start
  • Goggles, gloves, ear protection and a dust mask

What people hire it for

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the drill goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Through-wall holes

Extractor ducting, flues, soil pipes and cable runs through solid brick and block.

02/ 06

Fixing into concrete

Anchors into slab and lintel where a normal drill will not get started.

03/ 06

Chasing for cable and pipe

With a chisel bit in, cutting channels through plaster and block for first fix.

04/ 06

Lifting tile and screed

A wide chisel and the hammer action takes up stuck floor tile far faster than a bolster and a lump hammer.

05/ 06

Breaking out small areas

Where a full breaker is too much machine but a hammer drill is not quite enough.

06/ 06

Scaffold and handrail fixings

Repeated fixings into masonry, where the tool doing the work rather than you is the whole point.

How it works

Hiring the drill
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire SDS-Max rotary hammer drill
Drill, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Find out what is in the wall

Cable, pipe and reinforcement. On a through-wall hole, know what is on the other side as well as inside it. This tool has more than enough power to make a small mistake an expensive one.

02

Tell us the hole, not the drill

Bits are not interchangeable between drill types, and the one that suits a 10mm fixing is not the one that suits a 100mm core. Give us the hole size and the material when you book and the right drill and bits go out together.

03

Let the hammer do it

Steady pressure and let the action work. Leaning on it heats the bit, glazes the hole and slows you down.

04

Masonry dust is the hazard

A mask, not just goggles. Drilling concrete and block releases silica, and that is the part of this job that actually does long term harm.

05

Clear the hole as you go

Back the bit out now and again to clear dust. A packed hole binds the bit and is how they snap.

06

Overhead work is the tiring part

Any drill is hard work held overhead for long. If there is a lot of it, get a platform under you rather than fighting it off a ladder.

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the drill
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Drill hire,
answered

Whichever suits the hole. We carry more than one and the bits go with it, so the useful thing to tell us is the size of the hole and what you are drilling into rather than a model name.

Yes, given a long enough bit. Tell us the wall thickness and the hole size when you ring so the right bit goes out with it.

With a chisel bit, for light work like lifting tile, screed or a small patch of concrete. For a path or a drive you want the actual breaker.

Tell us where you are using it when you ring and we will make sure what leaves the yard suits the supply you have. If there is no supply at all, the generator goes with it.

Ring the yard and you get a straight answer on whether the drill is available, when it is back if it is out on hire, and whether it is the right thing for what you are doing. If it is not, we will say so.
