Tool & plant hire
Nantwich

Plant and tool hire from the Etruria yard out to Nantwich, the villages and the farms around it.

Micro and mini diggers, dumpers, breakers, wacker plates, cement mixers, saws, chippers and generators, hired by the day, the weekend or for as long as the job takes. Everything comes off the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, where it is parked rather than ordered in, so what we say is available actually is.

Nantwich is two jobs in one town. The old centre is timber framed and Georgian, listed in great swathes of it, on streets laid out long before anything needed room to turn round in them. Out past that it is newer housing, and then almost immediately dairy country: farm tracks, yards, gateways and a lot of ground that spends the winter wet.

Both ends of that want different kit and different planning, and the thing that decides it is rarely the machine itself. It is the route in. Tell us where it actually has to stand and what the tightest point on the way is, and we will tell you what gets there.

Worth knowing locally

What actually catches
people out here

01

The old centre is a listed building problem, not an access one

Large parts of the town centre sit in a conservation area and a great many of the frontages are listed. That changes what you are allowed to do as much as what will physically fit: consent, method and vibration near an old frontage all matter. Breaking out beside timber framing is not the same job as breaking out beside modern brick, and the plate you compact with afterwards should be chosen with that in mind.

02

Behind the frontages, everything is narrow

The streets off the centre were laid out for carts. Courtyards, alleys and rear yards reached through an arch are normal, and an arch has a height as well as a width. Measure both. The micro digger clears 700mm across the tracks, but nothing we hire gets through an opening it does not fit under.

03

The Weaver, and ground that stays wet

The river runs straight through the town and a good deal of the low ground either side of it drains slowly. Trenches fill, footings sit in water, and ground that behaved itself in August is a different proposition in February. If you are working low and near the river, get a pump on site before you need one rather than after.

04

Farm work is a ground problem, not a width one

Out towards Wybunbury, Wrenbury and Audlem the gateways are wide and the yards are open, so what will fit is rarely the question. Whether it can cross the field after a wet week is. Rubber tracks spread the weight where wheels sink, which is why the tracked dumper earns its keep out here and a wheeled one can spend the afternoon being dug out of a gateway.

05

Long runs want a bit more notice

This is the furthest out we go, and it is not a fast road the whole way. We would rather tell you what we can actually do than promise a slot we cannot keep, so ring with the date as early as you can. Same day is sometimes possible and never guaranteed.

Getting it to you

A500 for most of it, then across. Collect from Etruria if you can legally tow, and check the combined weight against your licence before you plan the day around it. We hire plant trailers if you have nothing to tow with. Otherwise give us the postcode and the access and we will bring it.

Asked most often

Hiring in Nantwich,
answered

How far is Nantwich from the yard?

About twenty-one miles. The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, ST4 7BS, and it is the A500 for most of the run. Ring with your postcode and we will confirm delivery.

Can you get a digger into the old part of town?

Usually, but measure first, and measure the height as well as the width if you are going through an arch or an entry. The micro digger needs 700mm across the tracks. Tell us the tightest point and we will tell you honestly whether it goes.

Which dumper for a field or a farm yard?

The tracked one, most of the time. Rubber tracks spread the load where wheels sink, so it crosses soft ground and wet grass that would stop the wheeled dumper. If your whole route is hard standing, the 1t wheeled dumper carries more and moves faster.

Do you cover Audlem and Wrenbury?

Yes, along with Acton, Stapeley, Wybunbury and the villages in between. Ring with the postcode and we will confirm it before you book anything else around it.
