Elite Tool & Plant Hire hand winched material lift

A hand winched material lift that raises plasterboard, ducting, panels and units to ceiling height and then holds them there while you fix. No motor, no power needed, just a winch and a mast.

What it replaces is two or three people standing with their arms up, which is slow, hard on everyone and the reason first fix takes as long as it does. One person and this will board a ceiling that three people would otherwise be wrestling with.

Getting it to the job

It is 760mm across, which gets it through a standard doorway and a 900mm gate, and it breaks down for transport so it goes up a staircase in pieces.

The thing to check is the floor it will stand on rather than the way in. It wants firm and level under all of it, and a suspended or uneven floor is worth thinking about before the load goes up.

The jobs it actually
gets used on

Six of the jobs the genie lift goes out on most. Keep scrolling and they stack.

01/ 06

Boarding ceilings

Plasterboard held at the right height while you fix it, instead of two people holding and one screwing.

02/ 06

Ducting and services

Lifting duct sections and trays into place and holding them for fixing.

03/ 06

Kitchen and wall units

Getting a run of units up to line and holding them level while they are fixed.

04/ 06

Lighting and ceiling fittings

Heavy fittings raised and held steady rather than balanced overhead.

05/ 06

Getting materials onto a scaffold

Lifting boards and materials up to a working platform without carrying them up.

06/ 06

Shopfitting and signage

Panels and fascias lifted into position and held while they are levelled and fixed.

How it works

Hiring the genie lift
start to finish

01

Ring, message or send the details

Tell us the job and the dates. We will say whether it is in, when it is back if it is out, and whether it is the right machine for what you are doing.

02

Collect it, or we run it out

Pick it up from the yard on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, or we will deliver it to site. If you ring early enough and it is free, it can often go out the same day.

03

Ring when you are done

We off hire it from the day you ring rather than the day it happens to come back, and collect it from site if we delivered it.

What you
need to know

Elite Tool & Plant Hire hand winched material lift
Genie Lift, in the yard on Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria.
01

Nobody goes on it

It lifts materials, not people. It is not a work platform and it is not an alternative to the scaffold tower, whatever it looks like.

02

Secure the load

Strap or otherwise fix what you are lifting before it leaves the ground. A sheet of plasterboard five metres up that decides to slide is a serious problem.

03

Level ground, every time

Set the outriggers or legs properly on firm, level ground. A mast loaded at height on a slope is exactly as unstable as it sounds.

04

Nobody underneath

Not while it is going up, not while it is held, not while it is coming down. Keep the area under it clear.

05

Know the weight

Two hundred and twenty-seven kilos is the limit. Boards and duct are heavier in a stack than people estimate, so count rather than guess.

06

Lower it under control

Winch it down rather than letting it run. The load coming down fast is when things shift.

Used Elite for the first time after using other companies before, wow what a breath of fresh air, prompt replies to messages, Cameron dropped the micro digger off and what a credit to the company he is…

Neil Gerrard · Micro digger

Fantastic experience with Elite Plant Hire! I hired a mini digger and a tracked dumper, and both were top-quality, modern, and reliable machines…

Where the genie lift
goes out to

The yard is on Brick Kiln Lane in Etruria, a couple of minutes off the A500, so most of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a short run either way. Collect it yourself if you have something that can carry or tow it, or we will deliver it to site and collect it when you are finished.

Asked most often

Genie Lift hire,
answered

A hand winched material lift on a mast. Genie is a manufacturer name that became the everyday word for it. People also ask for it as a plasterboard lift, a panel lift or a board lifter.

No. It lifts materials only. If you need to be at height yourself, that is the scaffold tower and they are frequently hired together.

We have them at 5.8m and 7.8m, which covers ordinary and most commercial ceiling heights. Tell us the height you are working to when you ring and we will say which one you need.

No, it is a hand winch. That is part of why it suits first fix work, where the supply often is not on yet.
